We are sad to say that Dr. Karthik’s long-time mentor, Dr. Satish Vyas, has passed away. Dr. Vyas was like a father to Dr. Karthik and was extremely influential in his life.

During his lifetime, Dr. Vyas dedicated himself to the study of plastic surgery and to helping others. He started his medical training at Wayne State University School of Medicine, and after proving himself to be an exceptional talent, he was certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. He also became a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons.

Dr. Vyas returned to Wayne State University, this time to accept a position as a Clinical Assistant Professor of Plastic Surgery. He was also a member of the staff at Oakwood Hospital in Dearborn, MI. In these positions, he used his medical knowledge and experience to enlighten students and address patients’ needs.

Ever the philanthropist, Dr. Vyas frequently traveled to India and the Philippines to teach workshops to local surgeons and treat disadvantaged patients. During these trips, he would perform surgeries like cleft lip repair, tumor and cyst removals, treatment of burn contractures, and nasal reconstructions.

Not only was Dr. Vyas a skilled and accomplished plastic surgeon, he was also a man of the arts. He was a sculptor, a painter, a dramatic actor, a poet, and a singer.

This great man’s impact on people was immeasurable and will not be forgotten. The lessons he taught will be carried on in Dr. Karthik’s work and at our practice.
